How to Create Post Summaries in Blogger (and very easily, too!)

After days of figuring out how to create post summaries in Blogger, trying out a few unsuccessful html tweaks here and there, and even being lured into downloading a suspicious widget that asks for blog account details, I finally got the "Read More" link that I've always wanted. And apparently, it's as simple as clicking a humble little button.

This button, exactly:

If you're more of a coder than a designer, you can still access this nifty widget in the Edit HTML mode in the post editor. Just insert the code <!-- more -->  where you want the jump break to appear, and you're good to go.

I discovered this elusive nugget from the Blogger blog (hmm....kinda weird saying that). It turns out that as a way of celebrating Blogger's 10th year, in September 2009 the Blogger team introduced the Jump Break feature in their post editor. Neat, eh?

You can also change the "Read More" text into something more to your liking. Just go to the Layout tab in Blogger then click on Edit on the Blog Posts widget.  In the pop-up window that appears, just type in the text you'd like to use in the box beside Post page link text:

Great, isn't it. Google's Blogger support pages carries a more detailed description of this nifty feature. Now if only there were a button to get more people to read my blog entries....
